I am an amateur self-taught artist working in a few folk traditions.  Currently I am soaking up influence from Wm. Blake, Kenneth Patchen, the Mexican retablo genre, and the vodun influences of Haitian painting. Nothing ready to show the world there, yet.

Nonetheless, a recent walk by my neighbor’s hen coop got me looking at a favorite amateur subject:  chickens.

Frankly, chickens are violent, filthy, disgusting birds.  On the other hand, they’re noisy and messy.  BUT their Mercurial capacities and attributes show us humor, elegance, courage, and beauty. Those are the qualities that inspire me.

There’s something optimistic about chickens and we’ve had them around in art, on the platter, and in the coop for 1000s of years.

You can have them around, also. For what is worth, here are a few of my recent watercolors of chickens.  Some are sold into private collections, some still available.  Inquiries to Facebook Messenger will receive prompt attention.

All of my chickens are works of my imagination. Any resemblance to actual chickens, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.

This  series is sold out. Chickens and I have declared a truce. If you’re interested in future work,  please message me at my Facebook address
